About the project
In HeaLin we study how opportunities for building patient health literacy are created and taken during medical interactions.
A key element of the project is excavating good practices from physicians in creating space for the patient to reveal health literacy – relevant information, and in supporting the health literacy of the patient during the unfolding of the medical visit. Such knowledge is used as starting point to co-create contents and materials for health literacy – building training.
Method
The project mostly uses microanalysis of clinical interactions to explore health literacy – building opportunities and efforts. It relies on already collected data (e.g. through COME INFO).
The last part of the project will use a series of co-creation workshops with patients, teachers, medical students, physicians and researchers from pedagogy, medicine and psychology.
Project status
The project started on December 2024 and will be concluded in December 2027. The first work package about health literacy building opportunities has been concluded in 2025 with articles submitted. Data analysis about physicians’ efforts for building health literacy is ongoing. Co-creation workshops will be done in 2027.
