Dean

I am honored to have been elected to be the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine from 1 January 2023, working closely  with the great team The Faculty Management. During 2023 we developed the strategy of the faculty, with  the vision "Outstanding knowledge for future health."

Background and experience

My regular position is a combined position as professor II at the Department of Neurology, Department of Clinical Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo and senior consultant at Department of Neurology at Division of  Neuroscience at Osle University Hospital (OUH).

I have broad leadership experience from UiO both at department, institute and faculty level, as head of department of a large clinical department at OUS/UiO with high activity also in research, research and management in regional and large international networks and from management of a professional interest organization (The Norwegian Brain Council). I was one of the candidates for rector in the election of rector at UiO in 2025.

Both as Professor of Neurology and previous Deputy Head at Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo and  Head of the Department of Neurology at Oslo University Hospital, I have a broad interest in medicine, research and education, and especially in brain health/neurology and leadership. As a leader, I particularly focus on developing good collaborations and good teams, working for common goals.

Both clinically and in research my work is mainly focused on diagnosis and treatment of  neuroinflammatory diseases, especially multiple sclerosis (MS). I am now co-leader of the research groups for "Molecular and immunological studies of MS" and "Imaging studies of MS"  at UiO / OUH, and I act as PI and project leader of ongoing MS research projects including international research networks. Currently I am work-package leader and on the board of the EU-Horizon 2020-funded project  "MultipleMS"  and am the Norwegian PI in International MS Genetics Consortium.  I am the main contact for our affiliation with Ospedale San Raffaele, Milan, Italy in the MAGNIMS (Magnetic Resonance Imaging in MS) network.
