NCMBM’s Associate Investigators are drawn from a group of outstanding scientists who are based in Norway, with expertise compatible with NCMBM’s research areas and who are interested in collaborating with NCMBM. Associate Investigators contribute their expertise in molecular and translational medicine, and support newly recruited young NCMBM Group Leaders and early-stage Associate Investigators through mentoring activities.
NCMBM Associate Investigators continue to work at their host institutions, but are credited an affiliation to NCMBM and the Nordic EMBL Partnership for molecular medicine, and are eligible to apply for seed-funding grants for collaborative projects with NCMBM group leaders. For example, in 2019, 4 million NOK seed money funding was made available for 11 new collaborative projects with NCMBM group leaders. In 2021, NCMBM also allocated 6.7 million NOK to 11 new collaborative projects.
In 2020, NCMBM evaluated its Associate Investigator network and by doing so, new Associate Investigators were invited to apply to join the network. This evaluation also meant that Associate Investigators continue to complement the expertise of current NCMBM group leaders and the research taking place at the Centre.
All existing NCMBM Associate and Young Associate Investigators were invited to apply for renewal to ensure that the research interests and focus of the Associate Investigator network remain relevant for all.
As of 2025, NCMBM’s Associate Investigator network consists of 47 scientists from across Norway.
