Nearly half of us will develop cancer at some point during our lives. In this episode of Curious Norway, host Kristopher Schau visits the Radium Hospital in Oslo to meet the world-leading researcher Harald Stenmark, director of CanCell – Centre for Cancer Cell Reprogramming. The centre's ambition is a three-stage mission: to map the "programs" that drive cancer cells, identify their vulnerabilities and ultimately reprogram them into harmless cells.
In this episode, you will learn why cancer cells have an extremely high metabolism and "communicate" excessively, how the cell's own waste-disposal system can be harnessed to fight cancer, and why fruit flies are a valuable tool for cancer researchers.
