About the group

There have been several advances in the lung cancer field in recent years. Molecular diagnostics have been established, and some patients can be treated with tailored cancer treatment, both with medical treatment and radiotherapy.

There are also many clinical studies for lung cancer patients, providing new treatment options and improvements in prognosis.

Longterm goals

We have initiated clinical studies that combine radiotherapy and immunotherapy, in addition to studies on targeted treatment and different combinations of immunotherapy.

We analyze biological material from the patients included in clinical studies. We carry out analyzes at DNA, RNA and protein level, and also focus on immunological processes.  We also have ongoing projects investigating the role of the microbiome in cancer therapy response.

In addition to elucidating underlying biology to the differential responses to therapy, we want to identify biomarkers that can contribute to a more precise treatment, - with good effect and few side effects. The goal is for lung cancer patients to live longer and better.

Projects

The lung cancer group leads various projects in epidemiology, molecular characterization of tumours, individualized treatment and development of diagnostics.

Here is an overview over our projects:

  • The Norwegian Cancer Society's national competence environment Lung cancer
  • The NIPU-trial:
A randomised trial for patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma, Ipilimumab+nivolumab +/- UV1 telomerase peptide vaccine.
  • The DART-trial:
Durvalumab after chemoradiation for patients with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
  • IMPRESS-Norway:
Improving public health care system by implementing precision cancer medicine
  • The COMIT study:
Combining radiotherapy and immunotherapy – for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
