A plan for revising the undergraduate medical curriculum was approved by the Faculty Board in September 2013. In addition to a content review, the revised curriculum introduces a new overall organizational structure, with eight modules replacing the previous 12 semesters. The revised curriculum will introduce elective courses, more systematic training in practical skills, and a more comprehensive individual project thesis.
Implementation
The new program will be implemented over two axes:
First axis
- Module 1 replaces the 1st and 2nd semester.
- The first students started in the new Module 1 in fall 2014.
Second axis
- Module 4 replaces the old 7th semester.
- Students who have finished the 6th semester of the old curriculum will proceed to Module 4 in the new curriculum.
- The first group of students who will enter into the new curriculum in Module 4 will start in the spring term 2015.
Students who are already in the last half of the program in 2014, i.e. from semester 7 and onwards, will continue in the old curriculum until the end of their studies.
For a comprehensive model of the revision process, please consult the implementation plan (pdf).
For exchange students
In the new program, Module 6 will replace the old 9th semester. In the old program which is being phased out now, the 9th semester is the only semester taught entirely in English. The semester offered the opportunity for many foreign exchange students to come to Oslo.
Module 6 will mirror the old 9th semester and will also be taught entirely in English, as we wish to continue our successful exchange program.
