About ASP

ASP was established in 2006 and is funded by the Norwegian Directorate of Health.  Our tasks are divided into three main areas:

  • Professional development, research, and quality assurance of antibiotic use in primary healthcare.
  • Information activities targeting the public on antibiotics and resistance.
  • Participation in basic, further and continuing, education of physicians and other healthcare professionals.

ASP is responsible for the revision and implementation of the National Clinical Guideline for Antibiotic Use in Primary Care, in collaboration with the Norwegian Directorate of Health.

As a part of the Government's Action Plan against Antibiotic Resistance of 2016, ASP was given the responsibility of creating and operating two major quality improvement projects, RAK and RASK, targeting general practitioners and nursing homes in Norway, respectively. ASP is currently in the process of establishing RAK and RASK as permanent quality improvement programs in primary healthcare.

ASP is affiliated with the Department of General Practice's research group on Infections and Antibiotics.
