Cortical Circuits Group

How does the brain work?

We investigate processes in the brains of awake, behaving animals in order to  reveal mechanisms underlying perception, learning and memory.

Interneurons are key players in cortical circuits. Parvalbumine positive neurons in red, surrounded by perineuronal nets (condensed extracellular matrix) in green. Photo: (C) Hafting-Fyhn laboratory.

Methods

  • In vivo electrophysiology from large populations of neurons.
  • In vivo multiphoton microscopy of structure and activity.
  • Optogenetics.

Collaboration

We are part of Centre for Integrative Neuroplasticity (CINPLA) - an interdisciplinary consortium uniting experimental neuroscience and computational modelling.
