Department of Infectious Diseases
We focus our research on globally important infections such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, sepsis, influenza, Covid-19 and tropical diseases.
The department's UiO staff are responsible for teaching medical students (Module 3 and 8) and teach and take on lectures in several different forums. The department also runs several courses for doctors in further and continuing education.
We collaborate with users, commercial partners and national and international research collaborators. Through translational research, we contribute to increased knowledge about the immunopathogenesis of infections, biomarkers and new treatment strategies.
Our research will contribute to developing personalized medicine for our patients and a research platform for future pandemics through:
• Preclinical studies of biobanks collected from the department's patients
• Clinical intervention studies of vaccines and new treatment strategies
• Quality register studies of HIV, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, Sepsis and Covid-19
• Clinical partner in externally initiated projects and commissioned research
