Pancreaskreft

Gruppen studerer diverse aspekter ved bukspyttkjertelkreft, fra markører til behandling, overlevelse og livskvalitet med mål om bedre forståelse og tilpasset behandling.

Forskning

Bukspyttkjertelkreft, også kalt pankreaskreft, er kjent som en alvorlig sykdom siden den oppdages ofte i sent utviklingsstadium som gjør behandling vanskeligere. Livsforlengende og lindrende behandling er et viktig tilbud.

Gruppen forener kunnskap i mange fagfelt som til sammen skal danne mer helhetlig forskning: gastrokirurgi og gastromedisin, onkologi, molekylærgenetikk, patologi, farmakologi, immunterapi og palliativ medisin.

Vi forsker på både eksokrin bukspyttkjertelkreft som oppstår i den delen av bukspyttkjertel som produserer fordøyelsesenzymer, og den mer sjeldne endokrin bukspyttkjertelkreft som oppstår i vev som produserer hormoner.

På molekylærnivå studerer vi markører som hjelper å identifisere tumorer og avgjøre viderebehandling. Vi studerer også cellene og hvordan kreftceller og friske celler reagerer på hverandre.

Å skille mellom godartet og ondartet forandring i vev er også en utfordring som forskes på. I tillegg foregår det viktig forskning på optimalisert behandling, både i forhold til livsforlengelse og livskvalitet.

Det pågår også kliniske studier som prøver ut nye medisiner og behandlingsmetoder.

Nasjonalt samarbeid

  • Gjennom Norpact-1 studien er det etablert et forskningsnettverk i Norge for pancreaskreft som inkluderer kirurger, onkologer, gastroenterologer, radiologer og basalforskere ved Oslo universitetssykehus, Haukeland universitetssykehus, Stavanger universitetsykehus, St. Olavs hospital, Trondheim og Universitetssykehuset i Nord-Norge, Tromsø som er involvert i utredning og behandling av pasienter med pancreaskreft.
