Dr. Wang utdannet seg til teoretisk og beregningsfysiker (2000) ved Universitetet i Bergen. Hans første post-doc (2003) var ved OUS – Norsk Radiumhospital, for å utvikle data-mining-programvare for biologer for å analysere mikroarray-eksperimenter. Hans andre post-doc (2007) var ved Biology Department of Columbia University i New York City, for å utvide kunnskapen innen molekylærbiologi og for å kunne løse biologiske problemer med datasimulering. Fra år 2007 til nå var han beregningsbiolog eller bioinformatikkforsker, og hovedinteressen er å designe/utvikle avanserte data mining og maskinlæringsmetoder for å løse problemer i biologi.
