I study how evidence travels, transforms, and meets people’s lives.
With the philosopher Julia Kristeva and colleagues, I have developed translational medical humanities as an approach that understands language and narrative as the medium through which illness becomes intelligible and available for action.
I explore these processes in my current research on hospital-at-home, where care moves from the hospital into the spaces of everyday life; AI technologies, where patients’ stories are translated into data and clinical records; and health literacy, where health information is interpreted, narrated, and made meaningful in the context of people’s lives.
