Urban blue and green spaces, such as streams and adjacent riparian areas, constitute important biodiversity refuges in highly anthropogenically -modified areas, but this depends on their ecological characteristics, preservation and management. Birds are useful indicators of ecosystem quality due to their relatively high trophic position. They may also disseminate and control pathogenic organisms, being good indicators for human and animal health risks. In our study, we used presence/absence data of avian species, and a wide environmental characterization of 102 urban streams across five European cities with a broad latitudinal range (Portugal, France, Italy, Belgium, and Norway), to evaluate how the impacts of urbanisation on ecosystem health impacted avian biodiversity. Benevento and Oslo differed most strongly from the remaining cities. The most representative bird species were different among the cities, which indicated that there is not a full homogenization of in European riparian zones. Yet, the number of insectivorous bird species was negatively associated with increasing urbanisation, including some of its proxies such as imperviousness, artificial light at night and population density. Streams with higher diversity of vegetation types and habitats tended to favour insectivorous birds like the Eurasian Wren Troglodytes troglodytes and the Common Chiffchaff Phylloscopus collybita. This is relevant in the context of One Health because this feeding guild may control the abundance of potential disease vector-mosquitoes. Management strategies should focus on preserving and rehabilitating riparian zones with structured vegetation and promoting habitat diversity through the maintenance of hedgerows and patches of natural green areas.

Pharmaceuticals are Contaminants of Emerging Concern, with known effects on aquatic organisms such as increased mortality and reproduction inhibition. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive overview on occurrence of pharmaceuticals in European urban streams, and to assess the patterns and factors influencing their presence in the water. Sixteen pharmaceuticals from 6 therapeutic groups were detected in 102 sites sampled in 2022–2023 within 5 European cities (Coimbra-Portugal, Toulouse-France, Benevento-Italy, Ghent-Belgium, and Oslo-Norway). Pharmaceuticals and their mixtures were observed in 91 % and 79 % of the sites, respectively. Irbesartan, bisoprolol and carbamazepine were found in more than 50 % of the sites. Acetaminophen had the highest median concentration (near 1 μg/L). Toulouse had the higher total pharmaceutical concentration, followed by Ghent, Benevento, Coimbra and Oslo. Contaminants from the European Union Watch List (ofloxacin, propranolol, fluoxetine) were detected. The pharmaceutical patterns differed among cities, except between Coimbra and Oslo. The contamination by pharmaceuticals, considering all sites, was predicted by population and tree cover densities, but also by morphological condition, riparian zone, water pollution and imperviousness within some of the cities. This study reveals a high contamination of urban streams by pharmaceuticals, which could lead to risks for the health of aquatic organisms and humans.

Background
An increasing number of older adults receive home healthcare in their homes, some of whom lose their capacity and ability to take care of their own health, including oral health. Poor oral health may have serious consequences that can lead to poor nutrition, diseases, isolation, and even death. There is an urgent need to involve users in developing targeted interventions to ensure that eligible older adults exercise their right to receive appropriate dental care. The purpose of the study was to explore what user groups emphasised in co-creating a targeted dental care intervention for older adults receiving home healthcare.
Methods
In this study, an exploratory design with an inductive and interpretive approach was employed. In two six-hour workshops, eleven participants representing three older adults, one next of kin, two nurses, and five dental care providers exchanged and discussed their perspectives on dental care as part of a co-creation process. Data were collected from group and plenary discussions during the workshops and were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis.
Results
The different user groups conveyed confusing and contradictory understandings and interpretations of the dental healthcare landscape. This uncertainty resulted in missed information regarding dental care, leading to situations where they do not always seek dental healthcare services until an acute issue arises. A blurred perception of older adults’ needs for support, combined with shortcomings in collaboration, communication, and the exchange of digital information systems, has led to a lack of knowledge about one another and inadequate dental healthcare for this vulnerable group. The various user groups suggested different solutions; however, several key issues emerged as urgent to address. There is a need to build and integrate systems into home healthcare’s digital administrative and health record systems to support the clarification and identification of eligible patients, as well as to develop a digital coordination and communication system to connect the two levels of service.
Conclusions
Unpacking the perspectives of the different user groups uncovered that an intervention must take into account the views of all groups. Understanding and incorporating the perceptions of all the different user groups were crucial for developing an intervention that enables a preventive and collaborative dental care approach.

Resultat: Av 480 forespurte studenter deltok 410 (84,5 prosent) i studien.

Aim To examine factors that affect the performance of oral health care (OHC) for older people receiving nursing care at home. Background Oral health is often neglected by health care providers caring for older people. Research shows that health care providers' provision of OHC may be influenced by various factors (barriers and facilitators). When this research was conducted, health care providers from home healthcare services (HHCS) and nursing homes were grouped together despite setting differences; therefore, this study focuses on the performance of OHC by home health care providers (HHCPs) as a single group. Design Explorative design with a qualitative approach. Methods The managers of four HHCS units recruited 17 HHCPs to participate in focus group interviews. One interview was conducted per unit, and there were four to five participants in each interview. The analysis of interviews was based on theoretical thematic analysis and the PRECEDE constructs in the PRECEDE–PROCEED model. Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research (COREQ) guidelines were used in reporting this study. Findings The analysis resulted in two themes with predisposing factors (HHCPs' professional responsibilities, older people's attitude), five themes with enabling factors (knowledge and skills, older people/carer trust, available time, available equipment and collaboration with public dental service (PDS)), and two themes with reinforcing factors (routines and OHC focus on the workplace) that affect the provision of OHC. The factors were categorised as individual, organisational and collaboration factors. Conclusions In addition to individual factors found in previous studies, factors related to the organisation of services and communication between HHCPs and PDS seem to affect HHCPs' provision of OHC for adults receiving HHCS. Implications for Practice This study provides in-depth knowledge that can contribute to increasing HHCPs' provision of OHC and thereby prevent oral and dental disease among older people receiving HHCS.

Objectives: Through a scoping review, we examine in this survey what ways health equity has been promoted in clinical research informatics with patient implications and especially published in the year of 2021 (and some in 2022). Method: A scoping review was conducted guided by using methods described in the Joanna Briggs Institute Manual. The review process consisted of five stages: 1) development of aim and research question, 2) literature search, 3) literature screening and selection, 4) data extraction, and 5) accumulate and report results. Results: From the 478 identified papers in 2021 on the topic of clinical research informatics with focus on health equity as a patient implication, 8 papers met our inclusion criteria. All included papers focused on artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The papers addressed health equity in clinical research informatics either through the exposure of inequity in AI-based solutions or using AI as a tool for promoting health equity in the delivery of healthcare services. While algorithmic bias poses a risk to health equity within AI-based solutions, AI has also uncovered inequity in traditional treatment and demonstrated effective complements and alternatives that promotes health equity. Conclusions: Clinical research informatics with implications for patients still face challenges of ethical nature and clinical value. However, used prudently—for the right purpose in the right context—clinical research informatics could bring powerful tools in advancing health equity in patient care.

Objective
Globally, the number of digital health solutions is increasing, but they are not always designed with access and utilisation for people with impairments in mind. Development efforts have often not included the voice and requirements of people with impairments, who make up 15% of the world’s population, despite the fact that this can help ensure broad access and utilisation. Little attention to and limited inclusion of people with impairments in the development of digital health solutions results in continued and reinforced inequalities in health services provision for people with impairments. This review investigates the needs and barriers of people with impairments related to use of digital health solutions and strategies to foster user participation, access and utilisation of digital health solutions.
Methods
This scoping review, based on the Joanna Briggs Institute Manual, had five phases: 1) identification of aim and research questions, 2) literature search in five databases (April/May 2020), 3) literature screening based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria, 4) data extraction, and (5) reporting results.
Results
The literature search resulted in 5968 sources, of which 25 met our inclusion criteria. People with impairments appreciate digital health solutions that are designed to meet their specific impairment-related challenges. The reported needs and barriers related to technological design varied depending on the individuals’ challenges. The literature reported different types of participatory co-design strategies to foster access and utilisation of digital health solutions.
Conclusion
This scoping review support needs for increased awareness among developers to design solutions that meet people’s needs, contexts and states of health. By applying universal design as a strategy and including people with different types of impairments, starting in the idea creation phase of digital health solutions and throughout the development, developers can design solutions with better accessibility. Digital health solutions that are accessible and usable have a tremendous opportunity to foster health equity and achieve health promotion, prevention and self-care. This in turn can contribute to closing the gap between different population groups, reduce disparities and get the most from available healthcare services.

Objective To map the literature on subjective and objective oral health indicators and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in older adults receiving home health care services (HHCS). Background The proportion of older adults in need of HHCS will increase in the coming years. Previous studies indicate that frail and dependent older adults are at increased risk for oral diseases, due to challenges with daily oral hygiene and regular access to dental services. Materials and methods Four databases were searched in November 2020 for relevant literature. Search terms included a comprehensive list of terms for adults 65 years or older receiving HHCS, clinical and subjective oral health indicators, and OHRQoL. The literature was reviewed based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results Of the 3114 sources identified, 18 were included. Data on oral diseases and symptoms among older adults receiving HHCS were limited and heterogeneous. Overall, older adults often lacked some of their natural teeth and often had removable dentures that needed repair. In addition, plaque, caries, xerostomia, and chewing and swallowing problems were common among the population group. Data on OHRQoL were scarce and indicated a positive association with a higher number of present teeth, while decayed teeth, root remnants, and dry mouth had substantial negative impacts on the daily activities of older adults receiving HHCS. Conclusion This scoping review show that older adults above 65 years receiving HHCS generally have poor oral health status and that there is a knowledge gap regarding their OHRQoL.

Background Globally, new nurse practitioner roles have been introduced into interdisciplinary teams. Research indicates that agreement among the different healthcare providers regarding one another’s role and scope of practice is important for establishing interdisciplinary teamwork. Lack of agreement regarding a new nurse practitioner’s scope of practice may hinder collaboration. Aim To investigate the level of agreement among advanced geriatric nurses (AGNs), their colleagues and their leaders regarding which activities related to direct and indirect care, teaching/supervision, coordination and research and development work are perceived as appropriate for AGNs. Design A cross‐sectional descriptive survey. Methods The total population of AGNs in Norway (n = 26) and a sample of their colleagues, including leaders (n = 465), were invited to answer an online questionnaire. Twenty‐three (88.5%) AGNs and 195 (42%) colleagues answered the questionnaires. A series of cross‐tabulations were conducted to identify the respondents reporting on the appropriateness of different activities. Results The respondents identified all of the activities related to coordination, teaching/supervision and research and development work as appropriate for AGNs. Although the respondents considered several of the direct and indirect care activities as appropriate, there were conflicting views on the activities that traditionally fall within the medical field vs. those that traditionally fall within the nursing field. The AGNs saw most of the nursing and medical activities as appropriate, but their colleagues and leaders saw only some of the nursing activities as appropriate. The results also showed that there was high disagreement among the leaders regarding appropriate activities. Conclusion The results indicate that healthcare providers agree on which activities related to teaching/supervision, coordination, and research and development work are appropriate to include in AGNs’ scope of practice, but that there are conflicting views regarding activities related to direct and indirect care.

Aims and objectives To assess Norwegian advanced geriatric nurses’ (AGNs) use of their knowledge and skills, and factors that may influence AGNs’ opportunities to use their knowledge and skills to reach their full potential. Background Despite the need for nurses with advanced knowledge and skill in the care of older adults, the introduction of new advanced nursing roles has been challenging. Countries in the process of establishing advanced roles need to monitor and identify possible implementation issues. Design A cross‐sectional descriptive survey. Methods We invited the total population of AGNs in Norway (n = 26) and some of their colleagues (n = 465) to answer an online questionnaire. Twenty‐three (88.5%) of the AGNs and 195 (42.0%) of the invited colleagues completed and submitted the questionnaires. The data were analysed with descriptive statistics. STROBE guidelines were used in reporting this study. Results Of the AGNs, 16 (69.6%) used their knowledge and skills to their full potential when providing direct care. However, a minority used their knowledge and skills to their full potential when proving indirect care (n = 11, 47.8%), teaching/supervision (n = 11, 47.8%) and coordination (n = 5, 21.8%). A total of 47 (24.1%) colleagues experienced the AGNs’ scope of practice as completely clear, and 52 (26.6%) collaborated with the AGNs several times a week. Of the colleagues, 131 (67.2%) considered the AGNs’ role and scope of practice contributed positively to a high degree to health service for older adults. Conclusion The results indicate the need for greater focus on organisational adjustment for the AGNs to utilise their knowledge and skills to their full potential. Relevance to clinical practice There is a need for greater focus on organisational adjustment to integrate AGNs at the workplace, as complete integration may improve the AGNs’ use of their knowledge and skills.

Background Care of older adults in the community is becoming increasingly complex. However, nursing staff often has insufficient knowledge and skills to adequately address the needs of frail older adults. There is therefore a need for nurses with advanced qualifications. To meet this need, advanced geriatric nursing has been introduced in Norway. Aims and Objectives This study aimed to describe the experiences of nurses with their new role as advanced geriatric nurses in care of older adults and to determine what strategies the nurses considered important in the development of their new role. Design This study applied a descriptive, exploratory design. Methods In‐depth interviews were conducted with 21 nurses who had undergone an educational programme to become advanced geriatric nurses in Norway in 2016. Content analysis was used to analyse the data. Findings The participants described a complex and extensive nursing role, which they related to a new understanding of the patients, relatives and the system in which they worked. This new gaze had developed based on a combination of their new knowledge, their skills, experiences and professional interests. The opportunities to use their role depended on their workplace conditions. They related to contextual challenges at their workplace in different ways to optimise the use of their new gaze. Conclusions Common for all participants was a broader and deeper understanding of the patient's health and life situation, which guided participants' actions. The key issue in developing the new role was developing effective strategies to foster role integration. Implications for Practice Advanced geriatric nurses should collaborate with their managers to create a role that takes advantage of their knowledge and skills, as well as collaborate with colleagues to enhance understanding of utilisation of their role.

Objective: In this poster, we will present the BEAMER model, an emerging disease-agnostic model to improve adherence behaviour based on actionable factors and promote optimal health outcomes for all. Methods: Data on behavioural and structural factors affecting adherence to treatment have been collected from several sources and are being used to build the BEAMER model, where we aim to apply Machine Learning Modelling to forecast and diversify support towards more adherent behaviour. Results: The BEAMER model can assist healthcare providers in eliciting patient needs to adopt targeted actions to support patients in improving their adherence. The collected data indicate that BEAMER must conform to standardised approaches to patient adherence to treatment. Conclusion: We anticipate that the BEAMER model will contribute to provide personalised patient support to drive adherence behaviour.

This study focuses on the introduction of a nurse practitioner role, called advanced geriatric nurse (AGN) into the Norwegian healthcare system. The overall aim was to investigate the role of AGNs, what AGNs and their collaborators see as an appropriate scope of practice for these nurses and to what extent AGNs are being integrated into the Norwegian healthcare system. The 21 AGNs that were interviewed explained that they had developed a complex and extensive role. They had also developed a new ‘gaze’ based on a combination of their new knowledge and skills with their experience and interests. This new gaze provided them with the ability to see a wider range of medical, social and environmental problems in the older adults’ situation. The study also included a survey focusing on the integration of AGNs and their scope of practice among 23 AGNs and 195 of their colleagues. The survey showed that most of the respondents perceived the activities related to coordination, teaching/supervision and research and development work as appropriate for AGNs. Respondents also thought the same for half of the direct care activities, and for the one third of the indirect care activities. The survey also showed that the majority of the AGNs experienced that they were using their knowledge and skills to their full potential when providing direct care, but only a minority experienced doing so when providing indirect care, teaching/supervision and coordination. Around one-fourth of the colleagues stated that the AGNs’ scope of practice was completely clear and that they collaborated with the AGNs several times a week. Overall, the results indicate that the AGNs are not completely integrated into their workplaces. This study provides evidence that AGNs have a multifaceted role and a broad scope of practice, both of which are desired by AGNs, their colleagues and their leaders. The study also revealed a need for greater focus on the integration of AGNs into the Norwegian healthcare system.
